In 2015, I was brought into Mandarin Communications Group by a former classmate from SAIC. During my time at the company, I was entrusted with designing the layout for the main lifestyle and business publication, Mandarin Quarterly. The publication provides interesting content for the Chinese-American community in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.

The first thing that I had to do before coming up with an actual design for this was to create an elaborate grid system. A grid system is important in any kind of publication, especially something like this magazine, where pages should try and look cohesive despite the content. It's also helpful when there is a lot of information to input. Once a grid system was established, it was a matter of fitting the information in and then making them all align and creating cohesion. Hierarchy also plays a large role in the creation of these pages, especially if the institutions or products that we are introducing are gracious enough to provide us with aesthetically pleasing imagery.
